About GIA

At Gratitude in Action (GIA), we're on a mission to champion recovery and sober living. We go beyond just providing a roof over people's heads; we create an environment that fosters joy, productivity, and a renewed perspective on life without alcohol or mood-altering substances. Our aim is to offer a safe and structured haven where individuals can transition into a healthier way of living.

Our success stories often involve individuals who, despite grappling with chronic drug and alcohol abuse, demonstrate a genuine willingness to break free from destructive lifestyles. These may have included experiences of incarceration, living on the streets, or being estranged from family and friends.

The GIA thrift store is more than just a shopping destination; it's a hub for positive change in our community. By offering affordable, high-quality, gently used items like clothing, furniture, home decor, books, and housewares, we strive to combat poverty and enhance the lives of families and individuals. Moreover, the store serves as a stepping stone out of homelessness by providing clothing and job skills to those in early recovery.

Our approach involves three key steps: Rescue, Reclaim, and Recover.

Rescue: We breathe new life into used and discarded items by reselling them through our thrift store. To us, rescue means freeing things from confinement, danger, or evil.

Reclaim: We redefine reclaiming as a rescue from an undesirable state and restoring it to a natural state. This is not only reflected in the items we resell but also in the lives transformed by volunteering and participating at the store.

Recover: Recovery, to us, is about saving from loss and restoring to usefulness. It's a journey to rediscover one's identity. Alcoholism and addiction create a sense of separation, and the foundation of a new life in recovery is built on rigorous honesty, service to others, and personal responsibility.

At GIA, every step we take, every item we repurpose, and every life we impact is a testament to our commitment to making positive changes—one person and one reclaimed item at a time.

At GIA, our Mission is to promote recovery and sober living by creating a community that empowers men and women to become self-supporting.

Our Mission is to promote recovery and sober living, creating a community that empowers men and women with the opportunity to become self-supporting. We hope that no one will ever be denied a safe place to recover because they cannot afford it. We have created an environment that can provide hope to the hopeless. We remain successful with chronic drug/alcohol abusers due to their willingness to change unhealthy lifestyles, which may have included the pain of incarceration, living in the streets, and being alienated from family and friends. Men and women who have come to us for help have a variety of backgrounds. Many have long histories of substance abuse, homelessness, and/or incarceration. They rarely have the required identification to gain employment, little education, or marketable skills. They will become employable and be required to have a job. They will be connected with a variety of community resources. Training, counseling, treatment, and educational needs. This program is not designed as a handout but as a hand-up. Recovery happens when one addict talks with another addict sharing their experience, strength, and hope. men and women who have come to us for help have a variety of backgrounds. Many have long histories of substance abuse, homelessness, and/or incarceration. They come to us with medical problems and legal conflicts. They rarely have the required identification to gain employment. Some have little education or marketable skills.

We provide a structured living environment that will help them become self sufficient. They will become employable and be required to have a job. They will be connected with a variety of community resources, including assistance with job training, counseling, treatment, and educational needs.

For the fraction of the cost of short intense therapy or treatment centers, residents in Ignatia’s House can have enough time to learn or relearn the necessary life skills to live productively in today’s complex and demanding society. Our goal is for them to become fully self supporting and self sufficient.

Our Mission

Our mission is to PROMOTE recovery and sober living by creating a community that empowers men and women with the opportunity to become self-supporting. We believe that together we can change our communities one life at a time.

The Cost of Sober Living

One month at Ignatia’s House costs $600.00. However, many of our residents cannot afford this amount in spite of a real desire to take action to receive the help they need. Today, we need you more than ever. Our commitment at Gratitude in Action is to the worth of every human being and together we are making an investment in human dignity. Please make a commitment to donate consistent support for men and women in need. Whether that be a financial, resources, time, or prayer support. We appreciate it all.

Shopping at the GIA store provides financial support to Ignatia’s House. The stores aims to provide the needed funds for people who cannot afford the $600.00 a month to start their new life.
