Celebrating Milestones and Expressing Gratitude for Your Support
We are writing to share some incredible milestones and express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support in making our mission at Gratitude in Action (GIA) a reality.
Over the last 12 months, we have had the privilege of guiding 309 unique individuals on their journey towards sober living. We have collectively had over 23,588 days of sobriety. These brave souls, some of whom faced daunting challenges, left our program renewed hope.
Since our inception on September 23, 2016, a total of 3,163 unique individuals have found solace and support in our community. Our proudest achievement is witnessing individuals embark on life-changing journeys, some staying with us for over 2 years.
One of our most heartening accomplishments is the growth of our Active Alumni Association, which now boasts 364 dedicated members. These individuals continue to inspire us with their commitment to maintaining their sobriety and giving back to the community.
Our Voucher program, which provides essential items like clothing, household goods, bikes, and more to those in need, touched the lives of 5,419 unique individuals over the past year. Through partnerships with various organizations, we've been able to distribute these vouchers, totaling an estimated value of $76,542. Your support has been instrumental in making this possible.
Our Free Days, held twice a year, have an estimated value of $69,413. During these events, we provide essential items to those in need, fostering a sense of community and hope. These days are a testament to the power of collective support in creating a brighter future for all.
At GIA, our mission is clear: to promote recovery and sober living, offering individuals an opportunity to become self-supporting. We firmly believe that no one should be denied a safe place to recover due to financial constraints. Our community embodies the spirit of hope and resilience, helping individuals overcome chronic addiction, homelessness, and incarceration.
The success of our sober living residents, with a remarkable sobriety success rate (compared to the standard 3-5%), is a testament to our unique approach that places community at its core. The power of one addict sharing their journey with another has proven to be a potent catalyst for change.
Additionally, in May 2021, we launched GIA Prosper, a program aimed at empowering low-income individuals in recovery. It focuses on four critical elements: Prosper Life, Work, Home, and Health. With your support, we aim to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to thrive independently.
We're excited about the impact we can continue to make with your support. Every individual we guide on their journey to recovery and self-sufficiency is a testament to the strength of our community.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to you, our community supporters. Your unwavering support has allowed us to touch the lives of countless individuals, offering them hope, dignity, and a chance at a better future.
Together, we are making a difference, one life at a time
Founder’s Motivation
Richard and Terri Todd, the Founders of GIA began to implement their vision in 2016 with a single sober living home. They were motivated by their personal struggles with, and recovery from, substance abuse. They came to believe that helping others was not just the right thing to do but a necessary part of their own recovery. Their vision is that everyone ready to commit to sober living will have support for their journey. The capital campaign will enable GIA to implement this vision for years to come.
Over the last four years, GIA has grown to four sober living homes that serve men, women, and families ready to commit themselves to a sober and self-sufficient life. GIA has added a nonprofit thrift store that supports those in recovery by providing new skills and gently used clothing so they can re-enter the workforce. The thrift store also provides low cost goods, job training, and substance abuse prevention to the broader Billings community. The dedication of the founders, coupled with the amazing generosity of the Billings community, made this all possible.
GIA’s sober living program focuses on helping those most deeply impacted by substance abuse. Most beneficiaries enter GIA homeless, unemployed, and deeply dependent on public services and public spaces. Most have been through years of dependency and many have been through the prison system. GIA has succeeded in helping these people re-enter society sober, self-sufficient, and ready to give back to others.
